Holding On For Small Business Success

Have you ever felt like you were on the right track for small business success?  Yet, for some reason things weren’t coming together as you planned?  I think most of us who have started a business or run a business have had that feeling of  “when am I going to break through?”.

It tests our patience.  And even more importantly, our will to succeed. In collaborating with clients over the years and in my own businesses I have come to appreciate the value of persistence.  Persistence is the ability to “hang on” while making the small adjustments to be victorious and cross the finish line.

Interestingly, most of the break throughs, when we are starting out, occur when we least expect them.  If we hadn’t been persistent, we never would have gotten to experience the victory.

To borrow from Thomas Edison who failed over 1,000 times in trying to invent a successful light bulb before he found success,  he didn’t see each failure as a failure but as an opportunity to get closer to finding success.

Very often success in business or in life is just about being persistent.  Being persistent and having an awareness to make the adjustments to find success.

Check out the story of Henry Dempsey.  He was a pilot who got swept out of his small plane and caught the steps as he was falling out.  He had a strong grip and a persistence to where he held on until his co-pilot landed the plane.  According to the story, once the plane had landed, his grip was so strong that his fingers had to be pried off the steps.

Too often, victory is within our grasp.  The key to victory is to be persistent and to hold on a little bit longer. Hold on a little bit longer and you will break through.
